Movie Review: The Artist (2011)

Mobster's Rating: There’s much talk about “The Artist” being a silent, black and white film that happens to have been made in 2011. This is technically true, but to describe it as such is to suggest that it’s an artifact or an antique. It isn’t. Although it borrows the exact ... Read More

Review: Hugo (2011)
Posted On 23 Nov 2011 By Bartleby. Under 2011, 4 Stars (Phenomenal), Action, Action-Adventure, By Genre, Drama, Family/Kids, Fantasy, Reviews.
Mobster's Rating: With the fantastic ‘Hugo’, based off Brian Selznick’s Caldecott winning children’s novel, Martin Scorsese returns to a measure of his former glory. It’s always interesting to watch a filmmaker testing new waters, and in Hugo, a PG-rated big-budget family picture, the great director attempts a genre and format he’s ... Read More

Review: Take Shelter (2011)
Posted On 28 Oct 2011 By Bartleby. Under 2011, 4 Stars (Phenomenal), Action, By Genre, Drama, Horror, Reviews, Science Fiction, Suspense/Thriller.
Mobsters Rating: Something wicked this way comes. Just ask Michael Shannon’s Curtis LaForche in Jeff Nichols’ Take Shelter, an unnerving American pastorale about a family man plagued by the prospect of apocalyptic destruction. Curtis is an Ohio sandminer living a stable if sometimes financially stressful existence with beautiful wife Samantha (Jessica Chastain) ... Read More

Mobsters Rating: Would you like to hear a ghost story? Look around; the days are soon to shorten, the leaves to color and then fall, and the chill of winter is already intruding. There is really no better time for one. And this one, I promise, you will like. It’s a ... Read More

Memento (2000)
Posted On 07 Jan 2011 By Heather. Under 2000, 4 Stars (Phenomenal), Drama, Reviews, Suspense/Thriller.
Christopher Nolan made his mark as a writer and director in the world of cinema with Memento in the year 2000. This twisted and dark movie masked through the eyes of man with short term memory loss is a film puzzled over and analyzed, only to still leave it’s viewers with a sense of awe in the wake of it’s originality and concept.

Review: The Fighter (2010)
The Fighter is one of the best boxing movies ever made, as well as one of the best family drama's ever made. Believe the hype, and buy it a drink for doubting it.

Review: Black Swan (2010)

Black Swan is so good, it's...good. Crap, I thought I had something better for that. Oh and be warned: lots of foul language in this review cause that's how professional I is.

This is one of the best family movies to come around, essentially ever. It will make you laugh and it will make you cry. Mrs. Doubtfire should be owned by just about everyone.

Throwback Tuesday: Poltergeist (1982)
Posted On 19 Oct 2010 By Heather. Under 1982, 4 Stars (Phenomenal), Horror, Reviews, Throwback Tuesday.
At the age of twenty-nine I can still strongly attest that Poltergeist is the scariest movie I have ever seen. In it's best moments it feels like a nightmare you can't wake up from, with characters that could easily be you, special effects that still maintain their dignity, and an open curiosity about the paranormal and it's affects on the living.
