Colin Farrell is on the upswing, after his Golden Globe for In Bruges and his small (but good) role in Crazy Heart. His newest film (at least new to us Americans) is called Ondine, and from the looks of things, it seems like he plays a fisherman who randomly catches a woman in his net. This woman is mysterious and could or could not be a mermaid, but at the very least she grants him luck when he goes out to fish.
I don’t really know what to make of this movie yet, but I’m intrigued by the premise. I’m always a sucker for mermaid (or merman in the case of The Thirteenth Year) stories and Colin Farrell has never really been bad in anything. My only annoyance is the music they use at the end of the trailer, which makes it sound like this is some sort of dramatic thriller…which it could be but it stopped my enjoyment of the trailer dead in the tracks.
Ondine is released on demand (XBox, PS3, VOD, Amazon, Vudu) May 7, 2010 and will come to theaters in a limited capacity June 4, 2010.
