Godzilla, the most iconic movie monster of all-time (suck it King Kong!), is up for another reboot after the disasterous 1998 film that alienated fans and non-fans alike (except me, but I don’t count). Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures announced awhile back that they were partnering up to bring about a new Godzilla film to America. That isn’t new news however; the big news is that Legendary Pictures has released a concept drawing of what their new Godzilla is going to look like. Thanks to Cinema Blend, who will probably punch me right in the face for jacking this (I gave you credit, be nice!), the picture has released onto the internet. You interested? Yeah you are. Check it out below!
My two cents? I like where they seem to be going with this; this Godzilla doesn’t look like he’s going to father any kids and help teach little boys about fighting their bullies or anything of the sort. This Godzilla is here to beat the holy hell out of some buildings, yell a lot, and make life miserable for whoever comes into contact with it (odds are New York City, since that’s where every movie happens ever). Josh Tyler, in his article, fears that Cloverfield will have too much an influence on this reboot, but is that a total bad thing? I love the old movies; Gojira is one of my top ten favorites easily, and the ones that followed were hokey, but fun as hell. In this day and age though, no one would take those kinds of movies seriously. A more menacing Godzilla, who looks like he’d pop your kid’s balloon with a cigar? THAT is excellent.
What do you think of the new American version of Godzilla? Will it help you erase memories of the 1998 version? Do you hope they stick with the “guy in a suit” strategy even though you, in the deep realms of your heart, know they won’t?
Not to mention shoot some radiation out of his facehole!
Ok, I know the 1998 GODZILLA got everyone in a tizzy, but, I didn’t find it that bad. I thought it was cheesy fun, and provided enough destruction to satiate my 8 year old appetite. I mean, Emmerich didn’t even want to make it, so of course it sucked!
But, this one looks cool! Just, no more rubber suit guy! That started pissing me off after awhile.

Looks decent, definitely in the right direction! I’ll save my judgment until i actually see footage.

I’m so hesitant on movies like this. Remakes, reboots……………..I’m all for special effects, but without at least a decent script and plot, it just doesn’t matter.
Bingo. Which is one of the reasons that films like these unfairly become jokes. So many of them seem to be made with the intent of money in mind, all special effects and ironically no lasting effect

Lame… looks pretty much the same only he has longer, buffer arms… must be doin his bicep curls!
I prefer my Godzilla as a man in a suit stomping over a miniature city!

I’m concerned about the Cloverfield influence as well. I mean if they can do their own thing and evolve from what Cloverfield brought back to Americana audiences (a truly scary monster) than maybe Godzilla can do this. I feel pretty lackluster about the whole ordeal though.
I happen to dig King Kong, but Kong was meant to empathize with, Godzilla was meant to kick ass and destroy. I’m down with destruction, not to be confused with the sickness of course.
The way they’ve used the light and darkness look pretty impressive – If it translates to the screen, then they’re heading in the right direction. It could go horribly wrong with a dodgy screenplay and cast but, if that happens, we can probably just wait until it’s on DVD and watch it with the sound switched off
It has to be better than the last one!
Legendary Pictures hasn’t done me wrong yet. Sure Clash of the Titans and Jonah Hex were bad, but I see those as the exception to the rule.

And Clash Of The Titans was bad, but not a god awful as advertised. I think the disappointment crushed movie goers more than anything. It isn’t a movie really worth a discussion but it wasn’t completely lacking in entertainment value either. Plus it confirmed that Sam Worthington is a decent lead man in action films, we just need to give him better roles.
THANK YOU on that Heather. The movie was…well it was not good…but Sam was charming (wrong word, but I can’t think of a good one).

He was something. Captivating, handsome? I don’t know, but he has that “It” factor that will make me watch anything he stars in just because of his mere existence. That’s one helluva feat for me.
He’s like one of your friends who’s not really talented, but really cool anyhow in a lazy kind of way.
I think this is a good look for him. Godzilla is bad ass but has become a punchline because of some bad decisions…like David Hasselhoff.

David Hasselhoff is getting roasted this weekend I believe on Sunday. Roasts aren’t often funny, but this may be an exception to the rule.
I prefer the old look. It’s more vintage and scary, the new one’s all shiny and sparkly (even though it’s obviously not sparkling) and when I think of sparkly I think of the sparking Twilight Vampires…and just no, no.
