The next big holiday is Halloween and there is definitely not a shortage of films coming out in the horror and thriller genre. Even though I am not a huge fan of horror films these three movies look decent to me. I love movies that keep you on the edge of your seats and these three movies did just that with a trailer. There is a decent mix in these three films. ‘Case 39′ is a psychological thriller with a nice mix of horror, ‘Vanishing on 7th Street’ has a nice dose of science fiction apocalyptic goodness thrown in with the thrills. Finally, I am proud to say that Wes Craven still has what it takes to craft a slasher horror film with a nice crop of up and coming talent as he has shown with the forthcoming ‘My Soul To Take’.

Which of these do you plan on seeing when they arrive in theaters? Which of these films are likely to scare you the most?
I keep avoiding Case 39 and everything else looks bland…although I didn’t actually watch the trailer…I do dislike doing that. Go figure.

Really, that’s a shame because these look promising to me.
Why does Zellwegger always whisper. whisper whisper whisper whisper. I can NEVER hear her.
I dunno, looks like a lot of hacky horror cliches — breathing doors and bugs int he ear and what not.

It’s because she’s a chipmunk in disguise.

Well she’s all loud and aggressive in Cold Mountain – and most people seem to hate that one.

Ehhhh to My Soul to Take. It looked like a straight to DVD movie to me, but at least they didn’t overdo the accents like every other movie that takes place in Massachusetts nowadays.
This is classic Wes Craven style. If you look at Nightmare on Elm Street or the Scream movies you will see the same elements. They are not great movies but live up to Wes Craven’s style.
Case 39 looks really, really crappy, and I think it was released in like Canada or something early in the year.
Vanishing on 7th Street looks like Iam Legend, and has a great director, Brad Anderson at behind the camera, but casting Hayden Christiansen is just death already. So it looks like a mixed reviews.
My Soul To Take looks crappy in a way only Wes Craven can. It just looks fun, and gory, and added with the 3-D, I think it’s just going to be a good time.

I was wondering about Case 39 but I think it has a slightly different story from the typical horror movie which I liked from the trailer.
You hit the nail on the head with the I Am Legend comparison but I think Hayden is better than people give him credit for so maybe this movie will prove it.
Yes I agree I love me some Wes Craven!
we need a decent mainstream supernatural thriller. It’s been a looooong time.

I think it was released everywhere else like late last year and early this year. I was kinda surprised to find out that it had yet been released theatrically in the States. Its been released on DVD where I’m at since I think last month.
I guess the later release its getting in the States is because it probably tested bad and to ensure that they get the most money out off it, is to time the release near Halloween what with it being a horror flick and all.

Yeah it’s been released here for some time, I’m surprised it’s only now reaching the States.

7th street sort of looks good, but the whole “Stay in the light” thing has seriously been done to death

soul: meh ….. maybe. 16 years ago places the birth date of these kids squarely in 1994. That’s about when I was their age and Wes Craven started to shoot his last slasher franchise Scream…..god I’m old.
