Apparently Hollywood is not getting the message about some fans detesting 3D. I guess you can’t blame them with films like Jackass 3D raking the money in. As was reported James Cameron is converting Titanic in 3D and has plans for Alien in the future.
It looks like Lucas is also itching to make more money. Not only will he be converting all of his Star Wars films in 3D, he will also be giving Indiana Jones a 3D makeover.
According to BlueSkyDisney:
Next month, Lucasfilm will announce that they’re converting the Indiana Jones Saga to 3D as well. The films will be converted and released in a similar fashion as the Star Wars films with “Raiders of the Lost Ark” the first out of the gate.
While I love Indiana Jones and share his distaste for Nazi’s I do not know if these films are a good candidate for 3D conversion. I personally think that classics should be left alone in the manner that they are. I am fine with tweaking the print of a film but converting a film to 3D just to make money seems like a great way to alienate fans. If this trend continues I guess we can expect to see Chunk doing the Truffle Shuffle and Ghostbusters getting slimed in 3D.
I for one hope that does not happen. What are your thoughts?
The opening scene of Raiders and a lot of Temple would be great for 3D. It’s unnecessary but this is just the beginning so we should all just get over it.
Love the pic for this post, Jim!

You’re correct Kai, I may as well get used to the idea that there will be more 3D conversions to come. I normally don’t like to take the picture from the original article that I find unless I can help it. This picture was too good to pass up.
If the conversion is good, fine, though I really don’t see the point in re-releasing classics after 3D conversion. These movies weren’t made with 3D technology– the kind that filmmakers today are making– in mind. Ergo converting them to 3D reads as a huge cash-grab more than anything else. I’d like to see filmmakers actually go out on limbs to really push 3D and see what the medium truly brings to the table instead of just seeing 3D used as a cheap way to maybe earn some extra cash.
Not that I’m surprised George Lucas would do this, since the guy’s basically a prostitute.
