Review: The Devil Inside (2011)
Mobsters Rating: See that date on the calendar? It’s January again, and apparently that means it’s time for another low-rent horror film featuring everyone’s favorite supernatural diva, Satan. Of all the various prophecies and alleged ancient texts related to the Antichrist and the end of days, there has to be ... Read More

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn–Nathan’s Take
Posted On 23 Dec 2011 By Bartleby. Under 2011, 3.5 Stars (Exceptional), Action, Action-Adventure, Animated, Comedy, Family/Kids.
Mobsters Rating: With the dual releases of ‘War Horse’ and ‘The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn’, the Spielberg I remember from my youth returns to the big screen. Both films have a kind of wide-eyed wonder and narrative simplicity that serves to make them feel like matinee ... Read More

Movie Review: The Artist (2011)
Posted On 23 Dec 2011 By Bartleby. Under 2011, 4 Stars (Phenomenal), Action, Classic, Comedy, Drama, Foreign, Reviews, Romance, Romantic Comedy.
Mobster's Rating: There’s much talk about “The Artist” being a silent, black and white film that happens to have been made in 2011. This is technically true, but to describe it as such is to suggest that it’s an artifact or an antique. It isn’t. Although it borrows the exact ... Read More

Movie Review: Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011)
Posted On 20 Dec 2011 By Bartleby. Under 2011, 3 Stars (Fantastic), Action-Adventure, By Genre, By Star Rating, By The Year, Reviews, Suspense/Thriller.
Mobster's Rating: ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’, the fourth film in the MI franchise, continues the ambitious quest to keep Tom Cruise a viable, perfectly coiffed action star. In Brad Bird’s live-action debut, which handles death-defying feats with the same dazzle he brings to animation, Cruise leaps past eroding sink holes, fights ... Read More

Stephen King’s Bag of Bones
It is my unfortunate duty to inform the viewing public that if you are a fan of Stephen King or for that matter, good book to film adaptations, then you need to stay far away from Mick Garris’s Bag of Bones. In fact, do yourself a favor and stay away ... Read More

Blu-Ray Review: Cowboys and Aliens (2011)
Posted On 06 Dec 2011 By Bartleby. Under 2.5 Stars (Noteworthy), 2011, Action, Action-Adventure, By Genre, By Star Rating, Fantasy, Reviews, Science Fiction, Western.
Mobster's Rating: Jon Favreau’s Cowboys & Aliens is a decidedly old-fashioned movie. Although the title drums up comic-book imagery and the special effects are the state of the current art, everything else about the film suggests it could have been made some 40 years ago, perhaps starring Steve McQueen in ... Review: Hugo (2011)
Posted On 23 Nov 2011 By Bartleby. Under 2011, 4 Stars (Phenomenal), Action, Action-Adventure, By Genre, Drama, Family/Kids, Fantasy, Reviews.
Mobster's Rating: With the fantastic ‘Hugo’, based off Brian Selznick’s Caldecott winning children’s novel, Martin Scorsese returns to a measure of his former glory. It’s always interesting to watch a filmmaker testing new waters, and in Hugo, a PG-rated big-budget family picture, the great director attempts a genre and format he’s ... Read More

Review: Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1 (2011)
Posted On 18 Nov 2011 By Bartleby. Under 2 Stars (Mediocre), 2011, Action, Fantasy, Reviews, Romance.
Breaking Dawn begins the much anticipated/dreaded final chapter of the Twilight Saga. Ed and Bella get married, knock boots, and start the natural first step for any teen/ancient creepy thing relationship: have a baby! There's more sulking, more wolves and 100% more umbilical chewing than the previous installments.

Review: Melancholia (2011)
Posted On 15 Nov 2011 By Bartleby. Under 1 Star (Awful), 2011, By Genre, Drama, Fantasy, Reviews, Science Fiction.
Mobster's Rating: Welcome to Lars Von Trier’s Melancholia, where the end of the world never looked so pretentious. Von Trier, that Dane of the Dismal, delivers another art house exercise in glossy banality that's much less profound then it thinks it is. His last, Anti-Christ, had Charlotte Gainsbourg committing genital mutilation ... Read More
