According to , Jeremy Renner will be starring alongside Tom Cruise in ‘Mission: Impossible 4′. A number of possible contenders screen tested with Cruise but Paramount Pictures has chosen Renner to star. This is the second major role for Renner after his turn as the explosives specialist in the Oscar-winning ‘The Hurt Locker’. Renner will star as an operative along side Cruise in this fourth film but there are already speculations that he may be able to carry the Mission: Impossible franchise further if Cruise is not in any more films.
I have always been a fan of the Mission: Impossible series and think that this is a great casting choice. I love Tom Cruise, despite some of his recent set back film wise. I even somewhat enjoyed ‘Knight and Day’. Jeremy Renner is just what the doctor ordered to add to the explosive nature of the franchise. I am very excited to see him in ‘The Town’ alongside Ben Affleck and of course it will be great to see him in the star studded cast of ‘The Avengers’.
What are your thoughts of this bit of casting news? Are you a fan of the Mission: Impossible series?
It is bad enough the guy stole a nomination in last year’s Best Actor category…now he is in a vehicle that we don’t need to see? MI is done. I think III showed us that, despite the awesome Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Wow, tell us how you really feel lol. I think The Hurt Locker was fantastic, his role was amazing. If anything stole a spot it was Avatar in the Best Picture category. MI is still a vital franchise to me because Tom Cruise is a great actor. I am excited also because Simon Pegg will also reprise his role. So this movie is good to go as far as I’m concerned.
Avatar stole a BP nod over “The Blind Side”, not to bring up my loathing for that one again, but come on.

I agree with Jim that he was incredible Peter. The only truly bad win and nomination of Oscar last year was Bullock, and she was classy enough to know that shouldn’t be there.
I agree – Avatar was a good film to me and that was all…not deserving of a Best Pic nom. To me, The Hurt Locker was overrated and I stand by the idea that if a man directed it (say Joel Schumacher), it would never have won. Bullock rode the media wave to a win…I agree Heather. A totally weak category last year and she had no business winning. No one else really stood out of the five.
MI series is dead and bloated, but I dig Jeremy Renner so much that I “might” see this one. And with Simon Pegg returning it’s not quite so bleak, but still I’d call it day.

Simon Pegg makes almost anything watchable.

The guy is hilarious without being obvious all the time. He was literally born to make the world a sillier place.
I agree with you there Heather, what more can we see them do, Renner is fine but he wouldn’t make me care that much.

Glad to see Jeremy Renner start to get some big roles. As Heather and Peter said, the MI series is probably coming to an end but that doesn’t mean it can’t be made into something decent or better in the upcoming film.

Jeremy Renner is the perfect choice to carry the MI series into the future with our without Cruise! We are totally forgetting that JJ Abrahms is involved so I have to say this is going to be golden because anything JJ touches ROCKS in my opinion.
You are completely right Jim. I’m interested in JJ is apart of it.

Glad I am not the only one. Plus, Simon Pegg does bring some LOLS as always.
It shows what an Oscar nod can do, though, he’s been around for quite some time. It’s a bit like how Viggo turned huge back around the time of LoTR and History of Violence. I’m interested in him, just not in this decision.
