Review
License to Wed encompasses every attribute that is annoying, obnoxious, and so common in romantic comedy’s today. It is the poster child for everything that is painful to sit through in a feature film. The only solace that came was the part where the end credits played. Even so there were 91 minutes prior to the end credits spent cringing and looking around the room for an emergency exit to end my misery.
The premise itself is so representative and excessively overt for this genre today. A happy couple finds some wacky event that suddenly puts their relationship, that was perfectly content, in desperate jeopardy, and somehow events involving the couples pain at their new found disdain for one another is supposed to be funny. To further insult the viewer we are supposed to be ever forgiving of the maniacal supposed genius that “planned” every event to it’s perfectly happy ending. There is no sweet or subtle message taught in this pathetic excuse for a love story, and there isn’t even anything funny. There is only depressing pokes at the state of marriage and love in today’s society, and an ending tied up in a nice bow that contradicts everything that happened in the movie. Honestly it makes no sense.
Frankly, I’m also sick of the female leads in these kind of movies getting the “ok” to behave as badly as she wants, when Krasinski’s character is really trying, even though he’s obviously against her ridiculous demands, and it perpetuates the Bridezilla persona, which is not acceptable. The reason men can’t stand to watch these movies is because the poor guys are constantly jumping threw hoops and the woman never seems to notice. Filmmakers and women need to get a clue and slip out of their delusion. It’s an insult to anyone has a brain.

I like Mandy Moore and John Krasinski, who had a really nice compatibility and chemistry, even when her character turned into a needy Bridezilla, and he turned into a manic spazz falling apart at the apparent loss of his masculinity. Robin Williams is one of my favorite actors ever and one of the funniest men in Hollywood, but he often makes terrible movies, so this is no surprise.
Ratings and Suggestions
If you want to cheer on women acting like obnoxious entitled spoiled brats and men being emasculated and society saying this is okay, along with with an awkward mix of contradictory plot themes and repetitive slap stick comedy, then this movie is for you. License to Wed is typical of it’s genre and another step back in the evolutionary process for our species. There is nothing sweet nor funny about it. If you have my point of view you’ll be clenching your jaw the entire movie threw, though I obviously don’t recommend a viewing. No stars for this atrocity.
