I don’t have a problem with a remake of Freddy if it’s done well, and the trailer does look pretty compelling, but I DO have a problem with someone else playing Freddy other than Robert Englund. Freddy is Freddy because of Englund, and I don’t think anyone should ever step into that role.

And the makeup looks terrible. He looks like a crazy Scarecrow. Not scary.

I actually think this looks extremely visually pleasing because of the style of the film. I think this may look better when its not just a teaser trailer. I agree that Englund is a fabulous Freddy. I do however think that keeping him in a remade version would be the exact opposite of what is needed. A remake or reboot would be a little odd with the same characters in the roles. Just my opinion!

The look of it actually does look pretty terrifying, and I admit I would be totally pro-remake, but I’m having trouble getting past the new Freddy idea. It just seems like throwing a Tyrannosaurus in the ocean and calling him Jaws.

I will try to keep my mind open till I see a full length trailer though. :)

  4. I hear what you’re saying, Heather, but I’ll have to disagree — if anyone can pull of Freddy Kreuger, it’s Jackie Earle Haley. This guy doesn’t sweat so much as ooze menace; I’m amazed he can go anywhere normal, like the gas station or the supermarket, without people fainting in his midst. I have this feeling that he will do new things with Freddy Kreuger, that his take will not be a mere copy of Englund’s performance. I expect great things from JEH, and thus far I have not been disappointed. I’m in his corner.

I quite enjoyed the teaser. I need to be convinced about JEH as Freddy. He is a great actor, but I need to see the finish product before making that judgment.

  6. Man, I keep hitting this on everyone’s blog and I’m gonna go off on it here just like I have everywhere else! HAHA!

The trailer started out promising enough and I liked how I could almost recognize moments from the original in this remake. Then you get to Haley’s Freddy. Looks awful, just really stupid and sounds incredibly lame. Didn’t sound even remotely scary. Everything before that was looking great, the glove, the mood, the grime (a Platinum Dunes specialty isn’t it?) but he’s going to be a terrible Freddy.

The sad thing is that the voice he’s got in Watchmen would’ve worked well here, but he’s already done that and you can’t bring it out again. I had high hopes for this one and still want this remake to work since it’s my favorite horror series, but after seeing what he looks like and hearing how he sounds, I don’t think Freddy will be haunting my dreams this time around!
