In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo! -Lucky Day
Review
The Three Amigo’s is one of the most ridiculous and hilarious films ever made. Without question it’s in my top five in the funny category. And why not? At the time there were few funnier actors than Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, and Martin Short. Couple that with the remarkably funny script written by Steve Martin and Lorne Michael’s and you have a film that is clever in it’s stupidity and witty in it’s intellect and somehow becomes both dumb and smart.
"Myyyyyyyyyyyy little Buttercup........"
The nature of the story begins with three superficial character’s that are not entirely feeble-minded, but their vanity is so overwhelming they can’t see past their own celebrity. When their success comes to a catastrophic ending due to their narcissism, their megalomania leads them on a journey that is hysterical due to their ignorance of the perilous situation they are in.
"Well, you told me I have a plethora. And I just would like to know if you know what a plethora is. I would not like to think that a person would tell someone he has a plethora, and then find out that that person has *no idea* what it means to have a plethora."
The writing done by Martin and Michael’s has some of the best one liners and bizarre character situations in any film ever, but with the shrewd direction from John Landis and the ingenious interpretation from the main actors it all somehow makes radical sense together. The irony of the Amigos is they aren’t necessary unintelligent guys, but their denseness and shallowness is so overwhelming they visualize the situations they encounter are completely of realism, and when they finally do realize they mistaken their place it’s some of the greatest comedy ever. The conception itself is risky, but it’s execution is perfection.
Not so fast El Guapo! Or I'll pump you so full of lead you'll be using your dick for a pencil!
The one liners are unforgettable, and the scene with the singing bush is one of the greatest moments in cinema history. The Three Amigo’s is a classic in the comedy genre and film itself. It captures three of films greatest comedians in their prime doing some of the best work they’ve ever done, and together created a timeless film that willed be enjoyed for eons. For blissful nonsensical enjoyment, The Three Amigo’s is your best choice.
Heather, I love you for showcasing Three Amigos. It is an awesome movie.
Thanks Branden. I obsess over this flick in a way that probably isn’t healthy. It’s truly one of my favorites.
Hey Chevy Chase fans……..don’t have to rely on throwbacks anymore. In addition to “the Community,” etc, Chevy Chase will be making even more of a comeback…
