  1. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen this flick but I’m sure I’ve watched Chronicles of Riddick. Or is that the same movie? It’s hard to tell with Vin Diesel.

Different movies. Pitch Black is so much better :)

Castor is right. Not even close to the same movie. Chronicles is fun for mindless nonsense, but Pitch Black is one of the best science fiction flicks of the past decade.

Funny story: in 2000, I was in college and some friends and I had the brillian idea to take a hit of a three letter synthesized hallucinogen and go to watch Pitch Black. We got about 20 minutes in before we all decided to, in unspoken concensus, stand up, leave the theater, and walk the 4 miles back to my place.

      Hahahahahaha……………

Had a similar experience here, except while playing Resident Evil. Some things weren’t meant to be experienced in an “enhanced” state of being.

Looking back I think Pitch Black is a better movie than people give it credit for. It’s not entirely forgettable and those creatures are actually quite impressive. I think this gets flack for being a Vin Diesel movie. Well in my opinion this was perfectly suited for him and while he’s not the best action actor, he is better when he says and does less…even if he is the lead character:P

When I watch this it reminds me how excited I was for him to be the next big action guy, and very genuinely disappointed with where it went. Arnie and Sly weren’t the best actors and yet they applied their charm and picked the right movies to launch their careers. I think Vin Diesel unfortunately just chose way too many bad roles that weren’t forgiving enough to the movie world. I liked him in Babylon A.D., and the rehash of Fast and Furious was a lot of superficial fun, so it wasn’t a bad year for him. Another Riddick movie is in the works, so we’ll see, but I find it difficult to see another gem like Pitch Black for a long time. That and Serenity were some of the best Sci-Fi of the decade.

Well since the second Riddick movie was a mess (despite having a huge budget, beautiful set pieces and Judi Dench) and was ultimately a “Dune” sized failure and waste of money. They should not have gone THAT big on a film when Vin was still not a safe bet/legitimate draw.

I’d be up for this third one they are talking about but pray they have learned their lesson from 2;)
I for one like Vin and think his best work is Boiler Room (again a little bit of Vin is more impressive than a lot of Vin) …he was also pretty damn entertaining in Find Me Guilty.
